Why disposable cameras are back
Everyone carries a camera that can take thousands of sharp photos, and yet disposable cameras keep turning up at weddings, festivals and on holiday. So what is it about a plastic camera with 27 shots and no screen?

The wait
With a disposable, you don't see a single photo until the film is developed. That gap changes everything. There's nothing to check or retake in the moment, and when the prints finally come back, the trip or the party happens all over again.
The look
Cheap lenses, bright flash and film give photos that are a little soft, warm and imperfect, with grain and the odd light leak. Next to a phone's crisp, balanced photos, they look like memories rather than records.
Being present
A camera without a screen asks for very little attention. You take the photo and go back to the conversation. Many people say that's the real appeal: they enjoy the day more when they aren't editing it at the same time.
Limits make better photos
Many disposables have 27 exposures. When every shot counts, you wait for the moment, frame it once and move on. The photos end up more varied and more candid than a burst of fifty near-identical phone shots.
At weddings and parties
Handing out disposables at weddings became popular because guests capture moments the photographer never sees: the dance floor, the table at the back, the friends outside. The surprise of seeing them weeks later is part of the gift.
The catch
Each camera is used once, film and developing cost money, and you can wait days or weeks for prints. Dark, indoor shots without flash often come out murky, and some photos never come out at all.
A disposable camera on your phone
DisCam keeps what people love about disposables and drops the rest. A Disposable roll counts down your shots and hides them until you choose to develop it. You wind on between shots, the films add grain and glow, with a light leak if you want one, and the date can go in the corner.
There's no film to buy and no lab: the roll develops on screen, and your photos stay on your phone.
