What a disposable camera really costs.

The camera is only half the bill. Developing the roll costs nearly as much again, so 27 photos come to about £32 in the UK or $37 in the US. Here are the receipts, from shops' own prices on 16 October 2026, and what the same photos cost in DisCam.

What the camera costs

A disposable camera is a plastic camera sold with a roll of film already inside. You shoot the roll, then post or hand in the whole camera to be developed. These were the prices on each shop's own website on 16 October 2026:

  • Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash, 27 shots: £17.99 at Argos.
  • Kodak FunSaver with 27 + 12 shots: £21.99 at Jessops.
  • Kodak FunSaver, 27 shots: $19.95 at B&H Photo.
  • Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash, 27 shots: $21.99 at Target.

What developing costs

Developing costs nearly as much as the camera, and you can't see a single photo without it. You post the camera to a lab or take it to a shop, then pay for scans, prints or both.

  • Analogue Wonderland develops a disposable and scans the photos for £13.95, with tracked postage to the lab included. You get scans, not prints.
  • Max Spielmann develops by post for £15.50 with 6×4 prints, or £8 for developing alone plus £4 for the photos on a CD. You pay the postage, and it aims to develop the film within 5 working days of receiving it.
  • The Darkroom in the US starts at $17 with scans, gives you a prepaid label to post the camera and returns your negatives. It quotes 2 to 5 days in the post and 2 to 4 days at the lab.
  • The cheapest roll we found: Max Spielmann's own WOW Disposable Camera costs £24.99, with developing and 6×4 prints included when you take it back to one of its shops. That's £0.93 a photo for 27 shots. A CD of the photos costs extra.

What the same photos cost in DisCam

DisCam is a disposable camera app, so there's no camera to buy and nothing to post. It's free to download, and your first two rolls are free: one Instant roll and one Disposable roll, with 5 shots each. Every photo develops on your phone.

After that, DisCam Pro unlocks unlimited rolls, stacks and photos, with 12, 24 or 36 shots on each roll. It's an in-app subscription. Store prices differ from country to country, so the app shows you the price before you pay.

A year of disposables

One disposable is a small treat. One for every trip, birthday and night out soon adds up, because every roll needs a new camera and a new developing bill. Move the slider to see a year at the prices on the receipts above.

When a real disposable is worth it

Film makes sense when you want negatives and paper prints, or a camera to hand to a guest who doesn't have the app. At a wedding or a party, a real disposable on each table works for everyone.

DisCam's photos are digital: they look like film prints and stay on your phone, ready to save, share or print, but the app doesn't make paper prints. If it's the photos you're after, DisCam gives you the disposable feel without paying for each roll.
