The small print

Privacy Policy

DisCam is a film camera app that works entirely on your phone. This policy explains what the DisCam app and this website (discam.app) do with your information. The short version: the app collects no personal data, and we never see your photos.

The short version

  • No account. You never sign up or give us your name, email address or phone number.
  • Your photos stay on your phone. Every photo is developed and stored on your device. DisCam has no cloud and no server to upload them to.
  • No analytics, ads or tracking in the app. The app makes no network requests at all, so it works without an internet connection.
  • You decide where photos go. A photo only leaves DisCam when you save or share it, or when you turn on automatic saving.

What the app keeps on your phone

To work, DisCam stores the following in its own private storage on your device:

  • the photos you take or import, and the prints developed from them;
  • the originals of those photos, if you have Keep original turned on;
  • your rolls, stacks and settings, such as your default film and date stamp style.

None of this is sent to us or anyone else, and we have no way to access it. Depending on your phone’s settings, it may be included in your device’s own backups, which are handled by Apple or Google under their privacy policies.

Permissions the app asks for

Camera

DisCam uses the camera to take photos. It only turns the camera on while the camera screen is open, and everything the camera sees is processed on your phone.

Photos

When you import, DisCam uses your phone’s photo picker, so it only sees the photos you choose. It reads the date each one was taken so the print carries the right day. When you save a print, DisCam asks to add it to your photo library. On iPhone this is add-only access, so DisCam can’t browse the rest of your library.

What DisCam never asks for

DisCam doesn’t ask for access to your microphone, location or contacts.

Saving and sharing

When you save a photo, it goes to your phone’s photo library. When you share one, you choose where it goes, and what happens next is covered by the privacy policy of the app or service you share it with. If you turn on Save to Photos in Settings, each new photo you take is also saved to your photo library automatically.

Deleting your data

You can delete any photo, roll or stack whenever you like, or clear everything at once with Erase all photos in Settings. Uninstalling DisCam also removes everything it stored on your phone. Photos you saved to your photo library or shared elsewhere stay where you put them. Step-by-step instructions are on the delete your photos page.

This website

discam.app is a simple information site. It has no sign-up, no forms, no cookies and no advertising or analytics scripts of our own, and it doesn’t load third-party scripts or trackers.

Like any website, it’s served by a hosting provider, Replit. To deliver the site and keep it secure, Replit processes technical information sent by your browser, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. Replit also gives us aggregated traffic statistics, such as approximate visitor numbers, popular pages, referring sites, countries and device types. These statistics don’t identify you.

If you follow a link to the App Store or Google Play, Apple’s or Google’s privacy policy applies from then on.

Children

DisCam doesn’t collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Because the app doesn’t send us any personal data, we hold nothing about you that we could access, correct or delete on your behalf. Everything DisCam stores is on your phone and fully under your control. Depending on where you live, you may still have rights under data protection laws such as the UK GDPR or EU GDPR, and you can complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, that’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a future version of DisCam ever changes how it handles your information, we’ll update this policy before that version is released.
